Slut Walk in Protest of Rape Victims Being Perceived as Sluts

Tomorrow from
1-5pm is the Slut Walk in Salt Lake City, which is a peaceful protest against victims of rape being treated as the perpetrators by how they are perceived to dress, etc.

Why SlutWalk SLC?

Because we’ve had enough. We are survivors and allies and if we could prevent rape we would.

Utah is one of many places that disproportionately burdens potential victims with prevention versus potential offenders. Our prevention strategy is almost exclusively “don’t get raped”, not “don’t rape”. The result of this strategy is that in Utah, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 males will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime (Utah Sexual Violence Council).

On Sept 1st wear what you want to the City Library from 1 pm to 6 pm to rally and march in solidarity to end rape culture.

The march will begin at 3:00 pm heading north on State Street to the State Capital where we will be addressed by a couple speakers, and then return to the Library. The rally will feature several poets, musicians, giveaways by SL,UT Utah, and interactive community art.

In relation to my feelings on the subject, here's a link to some of my writing:
