Health Tips

My health has required extensive study into alternative healing (I think I'm up to about five interrelated chronic illnesses, sadly), so this page is to let me share some of what I've learned.  Such pages seem to require a disclaimer about seeing your doctor, the need to realize I am not a physician, etc.

I would add that finding a Naturopathic doctor (ND, someone who specializes is combining typical treatments with alternative methods to work on the whole body and mind) made a huge difference for me, so don't give up hope that you will find someone who can truly help you.

My medicine cabinet looks a little strange.  For example:

Echinacea helps put the immune system into overdrive during colds and flu.  The FDA has found this to be true and found no overdose possible except that you cannot take it for more than about two weeks without a break of a couple of weeks or so in between.  The reason for this is that it can burn your immune system out over time.  I found it's invaluable in dealing with Mononucleosis, but it is not a long-term solution to immune deficiency.

Homeopathic remedies shorten flu symptoms, help with nausea, gas, menstrual cramps, muscle pain, etc.  Most of them are single problem specific, so I have several types.  They taken sublingually (under the tongue) and absorb into the bloodstream very quickly.  I prefer to use the pills versus the alcohol tinctures because I don't process alcohol well, despite it being a very small amount.  I found most remedies I've tried work, but not all.  If you don't feel better within a day of using one, get your money back and try something else, perhaps a different form, different brand, etc.

Fruit and Veggie Wash from Sunrider is used to kill bacteria and fungi on food (including meat) and can be taken internally.  It tastes terrible and should be taken diluted, but I have never before known something to end my food poisoning symptoms so quickly, and I have a low immunity to things like Salmonella so I would often spend weeks in bed after, say, a holiday meal.  A few drops of this soap a couple of times put me within a few hours to feeling I was in the last three days of a two-week recovery.  Unlike antibiotics, it does not appear to hurt good bacteria and goes after fungi, too, so it doesn't cause Candida (yeast) overgrowth like they do.  I tend to use more inexpensive forms of vegetable wash for my produce and save this for when I start feeling sick.

Taking minerals in liquid form (it can be an effervescent liquid) is much more effective than tablets.  Autopsies often find intestines full of undigested calcium tablets, so use a better form.  Taking a liquid (or powder you add to a liquid) makes it much more useful for causing a relaxed and restful state, especially with calcium and magnesium.

Concentrace liquid mineral drops are invaluable for people whose bodies start to become overly acidic (which is most people on an American diet) and help keep your system from latching onto any minerals it can (such as bone minerals) to try to keep a more neutral pH.  They help make things much easier for the liver.  I should take them daily, but I tend to remember I need them when I start to feel "toxic;" that's my word for the feeling that poor diet, lack of sleep, too much stress, and even lactic acid in my system from exercise is catching up with me.  This is different from a calcium and magnesium supplement; it contains many necessary trace minerals hard to get in an American diet.
