This is a great parody because even those made fun of have a great appreciation for it:

This was my first very own tape.  I got it for Christmas because I loved the movie and the song.

I sang so many classic Madonna songs that people at school started calling me Madonna.  I did a modern dance performance to "Live to Tell" and a talent show performance to this:

My brother was a big Styx fan, was always blaring them, and had a poster of this album on his wall.  He was devastated that he missed their live theatrical show that's in this video, but the robot theme was so bizarre that it alienated much of their fans.

Always a fan of 80s music, I also did performances involving "The Pet Shop Boys," but it was always their lesser-known songs like "Tonight is Forever" and this one.  I would fall asleep to my brother's awesome stereo listening to his Pet Shop Boys CDs in the dark, having practiced dancing and singing to them for hours.

I'm glad this Depeche Mode song got revamped and made a comeback; it's an obscure favorite of mine that happened to be the first song they performed together (you can see lots of ancient 80s versions in tiny halls at the beginning of their career).

I have loved this song for as long as I can remember.  I also listened to Bauhaus sometimes.  He sang a version of this at a recent concert but added island drums and such...I was horrified.  Only Peter himself could damage my favorite song so much, but he's gone past his Caribbean phase, thankfully.

Although it was not supposed to be an anti-men anthem, that is what this song is to me and many others; nothing is better to blare out of your lungs after a guy breaks up with you than this tune.

The days of George W. were rocky, and few Americans liked him by the end of his "reign."  Obama was going to change the world for the better.  In my personal opinion, he's running out of time to make me not see him as another incarnation of George.  We all know money corrupts, but our system is such that someone has to be rich to be president.  Perhaps that will change someday--or we'll become owned by the Chinese like we were last week.  At any rate, this is a touching song.

Japanese

No one seems to agree with me, but I find this song extremely addictive.  I've watched this video hundreds of times in the past two weeks and have been learning to sing the lyrics.

This is another addictive song.  This one is an intro to an anime called "Saber Marionette J."  It was my first real introduction to Japanese animation.  I kept the DVD on repeat at this song for hours.  This is the full version of the 1 1/2 minute opening credits song and includes additional show clips.

More game references than one would have thought humanly possible.  A cute love song for gamers.

This is so addictive that one listen just isn't enough.  (It refuses to embed, but you can click on the link.)  This is a slower version than the  English Upbeat Version of Caramelldansen 10 Hour Loop, although I like it a little slow and with this particular video, but you will find ten hours is almost enough of this song.

This is electronic vocals (Vocaloid) and holographic imaging used to present a concert.   You've gotta love the Japanese for helping give us great tech.

Filk (folk songs about fantasy/sci-fi novels)

"Captain Jack and the Mermaid" by Meg Davis set to the anime, "Mermaid Forest."

I lost an old tape of filk by Meg Davis and have been trying to find it online, but her anniversary reissue of the album has a few different songs and is missing a few of my favorites.  She worked with Mercedes Lackey on several of them.

Here is a cover of yet another Meg Davis song.  Filk is fun to sing at Medieval events and fantasy/sci-fi conventions.
