“Anime Club? Really?”

People often ask, “Why anime club?” Well, there are several reasons for it in my world.

First, I stretch my brain so many hours of the day that something fun and mindless can be very relaxing and rejuvenating.

Second, it’s the humor in anime, and in the club, that is most enjoyable. It is rare for things to give me great belly laughs like that, and it is, as such, both therapeutic and enjoyable.

Third, after a long day and week at school, I don’t want to dress up, go out, and be around tons of people. I want to sit, relax, be surprised by something I watch and by those around me, and laugh.

If it's not funny--even if I poke fun at it--or adorable on the scale of super-cute kittens (or both), I have friends from club to chat with or text until the episode is over. In fact, nearly any time of day or night there is someone from the club that will listen to my silly rantings. This is also therapeutic and helps me focus.

Sometimes there are video games, and I am shocked that I actually don't suck at them. This also helps let off steam, and many tests from books and online on how to improve my brain say that I need video games to help improve hand-eye coordination. Playing music becomes muscle memory too quickly unless you sightread new pieces all the time.

And the music is surprisingly addicting...you have no idea how much. I will, one day, have a karaoke/Rock Band party with anime/Japanese music because it is such a challenge to sing.

That there often aren’t any other girls making me feel self-conscious when I have an especially bad hair day, say, during finals week doesn’t hurt, either.
